I’m fairly familiar with Borg subset of tabletop RPGs. They are bursting with personality and fantastic art. Of the many that exist I’ve played Mork Borg (with the excellent solo supplement Solitary Defilement), CY_Borg solo, and Corp Borg in co-op play with Ariana. Here’s the description of Pirate Borg from its official website:
A scurvy-ridden, rules light, art heavy tabletop RPG.
Inspired by history, fantasy, horror and rum. Your cutlass & flintlock won’t save you from the hordes of skeletons, the Kraken, or even your own crew. PIRATE BORG is a complete game based on and compatible with the award -winning MÖRK BORG RPG. But it’s also a tool kit. Most of the tables can be hacked and used with any tabletop RPG.
Find a ship. Recruit some crew. Raid, pillage, plunder, and otherwise pilfer your weasley black guts out. Get a bigger ship. Kill some things. Upgrade your ship. Sneak into a fort. Raid a port. Acquire treasure. Bury said treasure. Become infamous. Search for someone else’s treasure. Flee in terror from unfathomable creatures from the deep. Drink all of the rum. Die on the high seas. Roll a new character and do it all again.
The character I rolled up is Charles Robert Jose the Rapscallion.
Charles Robert Jose was once a rising star at the Grand Maritime Academy, mentored by the renowned Captain Edward Thorn. However, the rigid discipline and relentless expectations chafed at his adventurous spirit.
Drawn to the thrill of the unknown and the allure of easy gold, Charles found a kindred spirit in the rogueish sailor Jack “Blackjack” Morgan. Blackjack introduced him to the darker side of the seas, where fortunes were made through guile and grit. After being caught pilfering academy supplies, Charles was expelled, his future in tatters.
With nowhere else to turn, he embraced the life of a rapscallion. Known for his skill in backstabbing, breaking and entering, and theft, Charles quickly gained a reputation among the seedy docks and shadowy taverns.
His most daring escapade involved stealing a longboat from Captain Roscoe “The Red” Flynn, a feared pirate lord. The price of this betrayal was high—he lost an eye in the ensuing skirmish—but he lived to tell the tale.
Now, dressed in rags and lurking in the shadows, Charles thrives on danger, always a step ahead of those who seek to bury him in a shallow grave.
