It’s back to some old school style fantasy but with some modern design twists. Knave 2e is a light system capable of big things. Character creation takes a matter of minutes, but you still end up with a lot of pieces to build off of. Here’s how the game is describe on its official website:
Knave 2e is an exploration-driven fantasy RPG and worldbuilding toolkit, inspired by the best elements of the Old-School DnD movement.
This edition expands on the intuitive core of the original game, featuring elegant, modular subsystems for hexcrawling, dungeon delving, potion making and downtime activities, all in a 80-page digest-sized hardcover lavishly illustrated by Peter Mullen.
I rolled up Trillby Longfallow whose background I wrote up below.
Trillby Fallowlong’s journey began at the cusp of adulthood, when she felt an calling to traverse distant lands as a religious pilgrim. For two years, she wandered through forests, mountains, and villages, seeking divine insight and sharing her cryptic interpretations of sacred texts. Her time on the road deepened her belief in the divine’s mysterious ways. The experiences she gathered left an indelible mark on her, both spiritually and physically—a faint noose scar around her neck, the origin of which she never fully explains.
Returning to her hometown, Trillby took up the somber profession of a gravedigger, finding solace in the quiet of the cemetery and the rhythm of her spade. Despite her vast knowledge of local history and customs, the townsfolk regard her as an oddity, a figure of derision and amusement. Trillby remains committed to spreading her faith, believing that her eccentric ways are merely a vessel for a higher purpose.
